Family Medicine

Our Family Doctor Group Practice provides comprehensive medical care for individuals and families at every stage of life. With several family doctors working as a team, patients benefit from greater appointment availability while retaining the continuity and personal approach that are central to good family medicine.

We provide care for new health concerns, ongoing medical conditions, preventive healthcare and routine follow-up, with referral to specialist or allied healthcare services when appropriate.

Acute Illness & Everyday Medical Problems

Assessment and treatment of common acute illnesses and new symptoms, including respiratory and urinary infections, gastrointestinal problems, fever, headaches, skin conditions, minor injuries and other everyday medical concerns. Where necessary, we can arrange investigations or referral for specialist assessment.

Chronic Disease Management

Regular monitoring and treatment of long-term conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, thyroid disease and cardiovascular risk factors. Follow-up can include medication reviews, blood tests and other investigations, with the aim of maintaining good disease control and identifying complications at an early stage.

Preventive Care & Health Checks

Family medicine is not only about treating illness. Preventive care provides an opportunity to identify health risks before they develop into more significant problems.

We offer individualised health assessments based on age, medical history, family history and personal risk factors. These may include blood pressure measurement, cardiovascular risk assessment, diabetes and cholesterol screening, weight and lifestyle assessment, review of vaccination status and advice regarding appropriate screening programmes.

Where indicated, investigations such as blood tests, ECG or other diagnostic services available at the Centre can be arranged as part of your assessment.

Men’s Health

Consultations for health concerns affecting men at different stages of life, including cardiovascular risk, urinary and prostate symptoms, sexual health concerns and age-appropriate preventive care.

Women’s Health

Assessment and ongoing care for a range of women’s health concerns, including menstrual and menopausal symptoms, contraception, preventive healthcare and appropriate investigation or referral when required.

Medication Reviews

Regular review of long-term medication helps ensure that treatment remains appropriate, effective and safe. This is particularly important for patients taking several medicines or whose medical circumstances have changed.

Medical Certificates & Documentation

Our family doctors can provide appropriate medical certification and documentation following clinical assessment and in accordance with applicable requirements.

Please note that, as a matter of practice policy, our doctors are unable to issue certificates for use in court proceedings, as this could require the certifying doctor to attend court in person and testify, taking them away from the practice for a significant part of the day and reducing the availability of care for other patients.

Referral & Coordination of Care

When specialist assessment is required, your family doctor can arrange referral and help coordinate your care. Having a range of medical specialists, healthcare professionals and diagnostic services available at Professional Services Centre can make this process more convenient and facilitate communication between those involved in your care.

Home Visits

Home visits are available in Dingli, Rabat, Mtarfa and Baħrija for patients whose medical condition is such that attending the clinic would be detrimental to their health.

Home visiting is a premium medical service, with fees starting from €50. Requests are assessed individually by the doctor, as a home visit is intended for patients who have a genuine clinical reason preventing them from attending the Centre rather than simply as an alternative to a clinic appointment.

Continuity of Care

An important advantage of family medicine is having a medical team that becomes familiar with your health over time. Our group-practice model combines this continuity with the flexibility of having several family doctors available, allowing patients to receive timely care while their medical history and ongoing needs remain at the centre of their treatment.
